On Friday, airBaltic gathered its partners and employees at a special event at the Riga International Airport to present a unique gift to Latvia for its centenary: a special livery on an Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The A220, with registration YL-CSL, wears the flag of Latvia and the name of Latvia’s capital, Riga. Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis accepted the gift.
“Being a patron of the centenary of the Latvian state, I am doubly happy to receive this gift, because every gift to our country on this anniversary is a gift to each of us Latvians. The red-white-red flag is our holiness and our symbol. He is proof of the determination of our people to fight and protect their freedom. Thank you for this gift, which will allow us to look at the sky with pride!” said Vejonis.
Martin Gauss, executive director of airBaltic, saidm “The airBaltic team considers it a joy and honor to present a special gift for the centenary of Latvia, which is a historical event for every Latvian. We feel that Latvia’s ambassadors in the world are using every opportunity to tell Latvia about beautiful, successful and a prosperous state.
“Now the flag of Latvia is proudly erected above us high in the sky around the world. On behalf of airBaltic, I wish Latvia further prosperity and well-being, and each Latvian will be proud of their state and achievements both in everyday life and on this plane.”
This is the first airBaltic aircraft to be painted in a special livery. To create it, 15 professional painters worked for 1000 hours. In total, during the dyeing process, 250 liters of primer, paint and varnish were used; the painted layer reached a thickness of 120 microns or 0.12 mm.
