American Airlines announced on March 27th that it will fly a direct route between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires. American will be the first airline to fly between LAX and Buenos Aires.
“Our customers and team members, as well as regional businesses, will now have convenient access to explore beautiful Buenos Aires,” Suzanne Boda, senior vice president for the Los Angeles region for American Airlines, said in a statement. “This is yet another example of American Airlines’ continued to commitment to grow and strengthen our hub in the City of Angels.”
American will operate the route three times per week using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Service is set to start on December 19, 2018.
Flights will depart in the afternoon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The return flights will take off on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. At the time of writing, the airline has not released estimated ticket prices. Tickets go on sale on April 2.
American 787s have business class chains that feature 30 lie-flat beds. The aircraft also have power outlets and entertainment screens available for passengers in all cabins.
American has also announced routes between the US and four other destinations across South America and Mexico. New destinations include Georgetown, Guyana (GEO); Pereira, Colombia (PEI); Córdoba, Argentina (COR); and Oaxaca, Mexico (OAX). The carrier has, in addition, announced a new route connecting Philadelphia (PHL) and Mexico City (MEX). With all the new routes included, American will offer over 270 daily flights to the region. We’re excited to add more nonstop flights to places like Buenos Aires, maximizing connections across our network.”

All routes are subject to government approval. Flights between PHL and MEX are set to begin on July 5.
American is the largest carrier at LAX. It operates over 200 daily flights at the airport, carrying 15.9 million passengers yearly, representing a 19% market share. The airline announced last year that it will invest $1.5 billion for improvements in terminals 4 and 5 at LAX.
