British Airways’ international network from it’s main hub at London-Heathrow Airport just got a bit bigger, with the addition of flights to islands of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean.

Starting March 24th, 2018, British Airways will become the first airline to offer nonstop London-Seychelles service. The airport, coined simply Seychelles International Airport, is located on the island of Mahe, near the capital of the country, Victoria.

British Airways will operate a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for it’s new Seychelles route. This type is flown on routes across the globe from Heathrow such as Tokyo, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Chennai, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Delhi, Newark, Austin, Toronto, and San Jose. (Photo: Wikimedia Commons)

British Airways, also called “Speedbird,” will serve the islands twice a week on a seasonal basis between the months of March and October, utilizing the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Flights will depart London on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Sean Doyle, British Airways’ director of network and alliances, said: “The Seychelles is one of the most beautiful places on earth and we’re delighted to be adding this collection of islands to our extensive route network. Customers can now get into ‘holiday mode’ even earlier with British Airways’ direct flights from London taking 10 hours, instead of over 13 hours with a connection in the Middle East.  As one of the leading luxury holiday destinations, the Seychelles offers customers a wide range of accommodation and activities in stunning natural surroundings.”

Fares for the flight are starting at £1050 in economy class, in which passengers get free warm meals, personal entertainment, two free carry-ons, and free seat selection 24 hours before departure. Interestingly, premium economy class is going for only £703 per person, where passengers get extra legroom, an extra checked bag, and a more personalized, attentive onboard service. For those wanting to travel in style, you can book Business class for only £1323, with a fully-lie-flat bed, world-class onboard menus, access to lounges at select airports, and other amenities.

BA062 Seychelles 9:00 a.m. departure -> London-Heathrow 4:20 p.m. arrival B789 10h 20min

The announcement of service to Seychelles follows a year where the airline has added almost 30 routes, most notably Heathrow-New Orleans and Gatwick-Oakland and Fort Lauderdale.
