Upholding its “Inspiring Humanity” slogan, JetBlue held its annual JFK Plane Pull charity event today, in which teams are created to pull a JetBlue plane to raise funds for Joining Against Cancer in Kids, or the J-A-C-K Foundation. JetBlue partnered up with the British Metropolitan Police Department for its annual plane-pull event this year, in which officers from London competed against teams from JetBlue and local agencies to raise funds for childhood cancer research. Last year’s event raised over $123,000, all of which went to help families and patients impacted by pediatric brain cancer, to fund research and to create international awareness for neuroblastoma.

However, this year’s event also had a special visitor: N531JL, painted into JetBlue’s newest special livery, “Blue Finest”, dedicated to the work of the over 36,000 officers that make up the New York City Police Department. “Blue Finest” was pulled by 23 different teams during the Plane Pull event, with teams competing to see which could pull the plane 100 feet in the fastest time.

JetBlue’s Executive Vice President for Customer Experience Joanna Geraghty said, “As New York’s Hometown Airline, supporting our local public servants including the NYPD is part of our DNA,” and invoking the airline’s slogan, continued, “Our mission of inspiring humanity is brought to life each day through our crewmembers, many of whom are also former public servants. This mission also lives in the work the NYPD does to keep our communities safe.”

The NYPD badge and shield is shown by the front door of “Blue Finest”, while the tail design is based off the NYPD flag; the flag contains 24 stars, 23 of which represent the towns and villages that became a part of New York City, and the 24th star representing New York City itself. The five alternating green and white bars represent the five boroughs of New York City; the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.

The reveal of “Blue Finest” took place at New York’s JFK Airport, unveiled in JetBlue’s hangar in front of JetBlue staff members who were specifically picked to attend the event due to their previous work with the NYPD. The airline estimates that over 15% of its inflight crew members and support center workers have served in some capacity, whether with the NYPD or with other local, state and national agencies. “Blue Finest” joins JetBlue’s growing collection of service-focused special liveries, including “Blue Bravest”, dedicated to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), “Vets in Blue”, which honors veterans of past and present conflicts, and “Bluemanity”, which is a tribute to all JetBlue’s crew members whom bring its slogan “Inspiring Humanity” to life every day.
