Qatar Airways has announced that it will launch direct flights from Doha to Gothenburg, Sweden. Gothenburg will be Qatar’s second Swedish destination after Stockholm.
Qatar will fly to Gothenburg five times per week starting on 12 December 2018. Flights will be served with a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in a two-class configuration, including 22 Business Class seats and 232 Economy Class seats.
“It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of direct services to Gothenburg, our second gateway into Sweden. Gothenburg is a charming city with much to offer both business and leisure travellers,” said Qatar CEO Akbar Al Baker. “This new direct route demonstrates our commitment to expanding our presence in the Nordic countries, a highly important market for us, and to further connecting these destinations on our global network. We look forward to introducing travellers from around the world to this beautiful city.”
“Sweden is the largest economy in Scandinavia, and at the moment it is also the strongest in Europe. New direct routes are an important contributing factor, as they improve connectivity to markets that are crucial to the Swedish business community and attract capital and knowledge to the region,” said Jonas Abrahamsson, CEO of Swedavia. “This direct route is the result of successful cooperation where we, together with the region, have shown Qatar Airways the potential in the western Swedish market. Therefore, it is with great pleasure that Swedavia and western Sweden jointly welcome this large Middle East airline to Gothenburg Landvetter Airport.”
Flights depart Doha on 1:55 on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays and arrive in Gothenburg at 6:35. The return flight departs Gothenburg at 8:05 and arrive in Doha at 16:10.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the outbound flight departs Doha at 8:20 and arrives in Gothenburg at 13:00. The return flight departs at 15:10 and arrives in Doha at 23:15.
Passengers will have access to Qatar’s in-flight entertainment system (dubbed Oryx One), which gives access to over 4,000 movies, shows, songs, and games.
Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest city and is a major industrial and business center in the region, featuring the largest port in the Nordic countries. However, it also features numerous tourist attractions, such as scenic natural attractions and the Universeum, a nature museum of sorts that features a rainforest, aquarium, and a wide assortment of plants and animals.
Qatar first flew to Stockholm in 2007 and currently serves the route 14 times per week. Qatar flies from Doha to the capitals of each Nordic country, including Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Helsinki.
Passengers can expect to receive top-tier service on Qatar’s new route to Gothenburg. The carrier was awarded the World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Seat, Best Airline in the Middle East, and Best First Class Airline Lounge at the Skytrax World Airline Awards.
Qatar has plans to serve other new destinations from Doha, including Luxembourg, Tallinn, Valletta, Langkawi, and Da Nang.
