Every day, airlines around the world launch new routes, some with little fanfare, others with great fanfare. Regardless of their status, we collect the most interesting routes announced each week, and share them with you here.

Routes Announced This Week (May 8th – May 14th)

Starting this summer, Shenzhen in China will be linked to Melbourne (pictured) three times a week by Air China.

Air China: Shenzhen – Melbourne

Shenzhen will be getting its second route to Australia starting June 20th, 2017, when Air China opens service to Melbourne, Australia. Shenzhen will be Air China’s third destination from Melbourne, and flights will be operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft three times weekly. From Shenzhen, passengers can connect on Air China’s network throughout China, as well as take ferries from Shenzhen Airport to Hong Kong and Macau.

For three weeks this winter, Delta will link Las Vegas with the winter paradise of Honolulu. Flights will operate daily.

Delta: Las Vegas – Honolulu

During the holiday season this winter, Delta will be operating daily flights between Las Vegas and Honolulu, starting December 21st, 2017 and ending January 14th, 2018 (Honolulu Departure). Flights will be operated by Boeing 757-200 aircraft, and Delta will compete with Hawaiian Airlines’ flights on this route, operated up to three times a day.

The colorful town of Reykjavík and destinations beyond in Europe will be linked to Vancouver for the first time in winter, with Icelandair’s expansion of service to a year-round schedule.

Icelandair: Reykjavík – Vancouver

Icelandair has converted its service to Vancouver to a year-round schedule, operating two weekly flights during the Winter 2017/2018 season. Currently, the route only operates during the summer three times weekly. The flights to/from Reykjavík are timed to connect with Icelandair’s services to 27 destinations in Europe.

Interjet: Cancun – Montreal, Mexico City – Montreal

Interjet has selected Montreal as its first Canadian destination, starting flights from Cancun and Mexico City to Montreal starting on July 13th, 2017. Flights will be operated by Interjet’s Airbus A320 aircraft, three times weekly on each route.

Starting this summer, Barcelona will have a direct connection to Havana and Santiago (pictured) on Plus Ultra.

Plus Ultra: Barcelona – Havana, Barcelona – Madrid – Santiago

Plus Ultra, a Spanish airline, will be beginning service to Havana and Santiago starting this summer from Barcelona. The airline currently only operates flights between Madrid and Lima, however will be expanding with these new routes to the Caribbean and South America. Flights will be operated by Airbus A340-300 aircraft. Flights from Barcelona to Santiago via. Madrid begin June 16th (with a repositioning flight to Barcelona from Madrid operated June 15th**), while flights to Havana begin July 1st.

Reservations on the Barcelona – Madrid – Santiago flight can be made for only the Barcelona – Madrid, or Madrid – Santiago portions as well.
