Sichuan Airlines Flight 3U8633 declared an emergency (7700) after taking off from CKG (Chongqing) for Lhasa. After takeoff, one of the pieces of cockpit windshield blew off. The crew decided to land in the nearest airport- Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (CTU). The plane landed and evacuated all passengers safely.

As you can see from the image shown above, the glass on the right side completely fell off. The Airbus’ Flight control unit and glare shield in the cockpit were seriously deformed from the sudden decompression.

As the image above shows, the glass on the First officer’s side of the cockpit fell off completely.

This is similar to another accident which happened on June 10, 1990 (BA 5390). Fortunately, the pilots of 3U8633 had their seatbelts fastened.
