The Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-In & Expo kicks off April 4th in Lakeland, Florida. The annual event includes aviation exhibits, educational programs, career fairs, workshops, youth activities, and more. Over 1,000 visitors and almost 500 exhibitors are expected to attend the event, according to 10times.com. Additional viewers can be expected to tune in to the event on local television.
Sun ‘n Fun has been around since 1974. The Expo’s official website reports that it’s the second largest convention of its kind, and the largest annual convention in the state of Florida. The convention has a large economic impact on the surrounding area, bringing in as much as $64 million to the I-4 corridor (according to flysnf.org). Sun ‘n Fun also makes almost half a million dollars available every year to youth that can be put toward flight lessons or college tuition.
The convention has big plans for the upcoming expo. It plans to have the U.S Navy’s Blue Angels team present for some demonstrations. It also allows attendees to fly in to the Expo. Recent events organized by the Expo’s organizers include a “Seabird Splash-In”, a Mayor’s breakfast, and an FAA safety seminar.
