Kenya Airways, Kenya’s national carrier, is planning to launch an all-new route from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, to New York JFK. The airline plans to start flights on the 28th of September from Nairobi using their Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners.

Not many other airlines fly directly from Africa and the United States, though it seems that the route is promising as 7,000 passengers have reportedly already booked tickets via Kenya Airways’ website. The route will prove a welcome addition to the 40 destinations served through Kenya Airway’s hub in Nairobi.

Kenya Airways’ 787 Dreamliners feature 30 lie-flat seats, which have a pitch of 74 inches in Business Class. The planes have 204 Economy Class seats with 32 inches of pitch. The flight is estimated to take 14 hours westbound and 15 hours Eastbound. The aircraft will carry four pilots, twelve cabin crew, and 85 tonnes of fuel.

Kenya Airways hinted about the route for a while but has kept silent about the launch so far. Now the route has been officially announced, its true potential can be explored.
