Boeing Repairing 25 737 MAX Jets Due to Wiring Flaws, Halting Deliveries

March 13, 2026 — Renton, Washington Boeing is repairing damaged wiring on as many as 25 undelivered 737 MAX jets at its Renton factory after discovering small scratches caused by a machining error, leading to short-term delivery delays into March and possibly April.

The issue, first reported by Bloomberg, affects produced but undelivered aircraft. Boeing has notified customers and U.S. regulators, including the FAA, assuring that the problem does not pose an immediate safety risk to in-service planes.

Details of the Wiring Issue

The flaws consist of “wires that have small scratches due to a machining error,” according to Boeing, as cited in reports from Yahoo Finance and FlightGlobal. Teams are performing rework to meet quality standards before delivery.

“Our 737 programme is performing rework on a group of airplanes to fix wires that have small scratches due to a machining error,” Boeing says. “This ensures they meet our quality standards before the airplanes are delivered.”

Production of new 737 MAX jets continues at the existing rate of about 42 per month, with plans to increase to 47 before year-end.

Delivery Impact

Boeing repairing 25 737 MAX jets due to wiring flaws, halting deliveries has resulted in fewer handovers this month. The company delivered just three 737 MAX jets in March so far, compared to 43 in February, per Yahoo Finance. Some first-quarter deliveries are delayed, but Boeing expects no effect on its full-year target.

“Production of new 737 Max airplanes continues at the existing rate… We expect some near-term delivery delays that may affect our deliveries in the first quarter. But given the rework timeline, we do not currently expect this issue to impact our year-end delivery total.”

Regulatory and Company Response

The FAA has been informed and is investigating but declined to comment, stating it “investigating and cannot comment on active investigations.” Boeing’s engineering analysis confirms no safety-of-flight issue for operating aircraft.
